Technical information

All the information you need for installing your Helipott, as well as a size overview of all our models, can be found in this section.

(Technical specifications subject to change. Installation dimensions remain unchanged.)

Let's go!

When connecting to a 230V line, we use a standard voltage converter, at least 10A, or 15A for size L (not available from us), with a cigarette lighter socket. This converter converts the voltage from 230V to 12V. Connection to a 12V line must also be fused with at least 10A or 15A. The power cable exits the rear panel at the bottom right (front view), is approximately 1 meter long, and can be fitted with a cigarette lighter plug upon request. It is a solid black cable.

The toilet can simply be placed on the floor; it has small rubber pads on all four corners as feet to prevent it from slipping.

This also allows the toilet to be lifted to the side for cleaning purposes.

The toilet can be screwed to the floor or wall. Since this varies depending on the installation location, no pre-drilled holes are provided in the housing. It's very easy to drill a hole in the back or floor; the aluminum sheet is easy to drill.

When drilling into the bottom, make sure to use sealing washers afterwards, as the bottom of the housing is sealed from the factory. This way, you're on the safe side in case of any accidents, such as a leak.

The connection for the exhaust duct (ventilation grille) of our exhaust kit has an opening of approximately 45mm in diameter.

The blue hose itself has a diameter of 32mm.

The hose has been tested so far with a maximum length of 2m and works very well. Longer hoses are available upon request.

We want to make things as easy as possible for our customers, which is why we offer a ventilation system with multiple mounting options. Furthermore, the fan can be replaced without any tools if needed. The fans are standard components that we source from other suppliers and are available from us at very competitive prices. We always recommend having a spare fan on board. Replacing a fan is quick and requires no tools.
The Helipott fan is equipped with a rim made of 2x20mm cellular rubber. The fan itself is 15mm thick, so the adhesive rubber strip protrudes approximately 2.5mm on both sides, thus isolating the fan against structure-borne noise and ensuring it is securely held in the fan housing.
A short cable protrudes from the fan for connection to the two Wago terminals on the fan housing.

The fan housing is screwed to the housing with M4x12 countersunk screws through the exhaust vent. The screws are first inserted into the countersinks, then the fan is slid in so that the screws are held in place and cannot fall out. This allows the
The screws through the fan's holes can be easily tightened or loosened using a 2.5mm Allen key.

Please tighten the screws with moderate force only!
On the E-Drive models, the fan housing and fan are mounted in the center rear as standard. Depending on requirements, the fan housing can also be mounted on the left or right. The cable can be pulled out of the cable channel to the required length.

In most cases, simply attaching the hose to the fitting is sufficient. If necessary, it can be further secured with a hose clamp, for example, in a pull-out toilet system where the toilet is constantly being moved back and forth.

The fan is simply inserted into the housing. The rubber band holds the fan securely in place and isolates vibrations. To remove it, simply pull it out the same way or push it out through the top opening.

Please note: the white sticker on the fan must always face the exhaust side!

When inserting the fan, the two cables are also inserted into the Wago connectors. Once the fan and cables are properly seated, the Wago connectors are closed. The supply cables are then connected to the opposite side of the Wago connectors. It is absolutely essential to ensure that the positive and negative terminals are not reversed, otherwise the fan will be damaged! Please also note the specified voltage rating of 12V or 24V.

Red = Plus / Black = Minus

The ideal solution is to use a Helipott windshield. It is designed to largely block wind and driving rain. It is available in right- and left-hand versions, as the lower louvers create a suction effect when air flows towards the vehicle (see image of transparent windshield), which improves ventilation. For exhaust air to be routed through the vehicle floor, the opening should face rearward to ideally create a suction effect while driving, further enhancing ventilation.

Since the windshield completely covers the outer opening, the fan housing of the exhaust kit can also be mounted directly on the inside of the outer wall. The windshield is attached directly over the opening using special adhesive tape, ensuring a watertight seal. Thanks to the direct and short path, without an intermediate hose, the ventilation is particularly effective.

Alternatively, in a pull-out solution, two fans can be used instead of a bulky exhaust hose.

The existing 50x50mm fan in the E-Drive toilets is supplemented by a second fan through the exterior wall or vehicle floor. Depending on the exhaust system, a larger fan, e.g., 92x92mm, can also be used. If necessary, the exhaust air can be redirected using a hose.

E-Drive toilets use a 4-pin cable that supplies power to the toilet and simultaneously connects to the external fan. The external fan is controlled by the E-Drive system, ensuring adequate ventilation at all times. The external fan can also be switched on and off separately if desired.

FAQs

Welcome to our FAQ section! Here you'll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about Helipott. We want to make sure you have all the information you need to make the best possible decision.

Is your question not listed? Ask your question here info@helipott.com

  • How does HELIPOTT work?

With HELIPOTT, liquids and solids are separated in a special toilet bowl consisting of two separate compartments. Sound familiar? Then read on, HELIPOTT offers much more. HELIPOTT E-Drive: Solids are collected directly in a container with a fully automatic agitator, where they are mixed with a dry substrate (coconut fibers). Fresh dry substrate is added only once at the beginning of the HELIPOTT system and lasts for 20-30 uses (i.e., longer sessions). Manual re-adding, as with conventional composting toilets, is unnecessary, as the agitator starts automatically after the toilet lid is closed, immediately minimizing odors. A fan inside the toilet extracts odors generated during defecation and transports them outside via an exhaust pipe. For liquids, an automatic spray system in the separator tray keeps things organized. After use, also automatically when the lid is closed, it sprays a small amount of water into the urinal. Emptying the urine tank is very smart and convenient and can be done via a normal toilet, or at campsites via the disposal station. Helipott Easy: The Easy model works without electricity and is operated classically with a hand crank. The special feature: The crank is removable, and only 1/3 of the stirring force is required for the stirring process. In addition, the crank is positioned at a comfortable height. This allows most users to operate the crank even during use, which is advantageous when working without any ventilation.

  • What advantages does HELIPOTT have compared to other composting toilets?

The main advantage of HELIPOTT is undoubtedly that the excreted solids no longer produce unpleasant odors. See also the "Reports and Blogs" section for more information. Furthermore, HELIPOTT E-Drive has the significant advantage of fully automatic operation. This makes it very easy to use. The user simply opens the lid and closes it again after use; the intelligent program takes care of the rest. This ensures safe and simple operation. As soon as HELIPOTT E-Drive is plugged in and switched on, it first performs a self-test and then goes into sleep mode to save energy. As soon as you open the lid, HELIPOTT E-Drive wakes up and starts its program. Immediately afterward, the ventilation and the LED light illuminate. If the LED is constantly lit, HELIPOTT E-Drive is ready for use. If the LED is flashing, an issue is amiss, such as the urine canister being missing or full. If everything is in order, use can proceed as usual. After the lid is closed, two redundant sensors are activated to verify that the lid is closed. If the lid is closed, the spray function for the urinal (E-Drive Magic) and the stirring program start. The agitator rotates forwards and backwards for a specific time, switches off, stirs again after a short time, and then stirs for a few seconds every hour thereafter. When the substrate in the agitator is saturated, it begins to clump. At this point, the compost bin should be emptied.

  • How and where do I empty the HELIPOTT?

Here's how to dispose of the solids: After prolonged use, the coconut substrate tends to clump. When this happens, the substrate becomes less absorbent and should be replaced with fresh substrate. To empty it, simply remove the agitator and tip the compostable material into your household waste or compost bin*. The included plastic spatula makes emptying easier. Rinsing with water or any other materials is unnecessary. Disposal is therefore extremely convenient with HELIPOTT. Simply reinsert the freshly filled agitator and you're done. Important: Ensure there are no solid clumps remaining in the substrate; otherwise, the indicator light will flash five times and the agitator won't start. *If you have your own garden, you can add the material to your compost bin. There, the solids will decompose into humus after at least 24 months. Make sure it's a closed compost bin with a lid to prevent black water from seeping into the soil. Here's how to dispose of the liquids: The HELIPOTT E-Drive has a level indicator for the urine tank. When the tank is full, you can simply remove it. The urine can be disposed of directly in a toilet or emptying station. Or, if you have your own garden, it can be diluted with water and used as plant fertilizer.

  • Why doesn't it smell when using HELIPOTT?

It's actually quite simple. Your body is already smart enough to separate its waste into solid and liquid. This natural principle should also be maintained during disposal. Firstly, separating the solid and liquid substances prevents them from mixing. This simply prevents the chemical reactions that form ammonia-containing compounds and lead to strong odors. Secondly, the solids are mixed with a dry substrate (coconut fibers). This dries out the feces, eliminating any perceptible fecal odors. A small integrated fan (included with the E-Drive) keeps any remaining odors completely gone. Even after extended periods of inactivity, without any power, there is no unpleasant smell. The remaining material looks, feels, and smells like potting soil.

  • Can I dispose of toilet paper in the HELIPOTT?

Toiletries like toilet paper, sanitary pads, and tampons must be disposed of separately. The best place is a small, lidded bin, which is a standard fixture in every bathroom anyway. Hundreds of customers can confirm that disposing of toilet paper separately is completely hassle-free. A regular bin filled with kitchen waste smells far worse. In many southern countries, it's mandatory to dispose of toilet paper separately due to the sewage system. You can also use sturdy, multi-ply toilet paper and avoid getting your hands dirty. Wrapping the used paper in a clean sheet of paper at the end makes it look neat, and the next user will only see white paper waste. When you empty the bin, you'll only find clean soil, free of paper scraps, and it's easier to empty. Why not try it at home?

  • How do I clean my HELIPOTT?

The compost bin with the agitator can be removed and emptied. Use the included spatula to loosen the soil-like material before emptying. The easiest way to empty it is by tipping it out. It's best to always have a small, sturdy sheet of plastic on hand, about 80 x 80 cm. This can be folded up for storage and used to empty the agitator. Then, hold the sheet by two opposite sides, creating a U-shape when you lift it. You can then pour the waste wherever you want it – onto your compost heap or into your regular household waste. Any residue is usually dry and comes off the metal easily. Smaller pieces may remain; these will be rubbed off and absorbed by the new compost. Please do not wash or clean with chemicals; the remaining residue is a good starting point for the next batch of compost.

  • My Helipott needs fresh coconut substrate. How do I get the brick to become flaky?

As soon as you notice that the substrate in the mixer needs to be replaced (clumps will start to form), you should take a fresh coconut brick and dissolve it. Make sure to dissolve the brick as dry as possible. For an 8-liter brick, you can achieve this with approximately 0.6-0.7 liters of water. Take a sturdy, reusable bag that you always carry with you, place the unwrapped brick inside, and pour about 700 ml of water over it. Seal the bag and ideally let it soak overnight. The brick will now have expanded considerably and can be kneaded through the bag with your hands. Let it sit for a while longer and then knead it again. You can now fill the empty mixer with the flaky coconut substrate. Don't overfill it; the tips of the mixing paddles should still be visible. You can reuse the bag in which the substrate is dissolved. You can also watch our explanatory video for more information.

  • What should I do if the car is stationary for an extended period?

If you're not using your Helipott for an extended period (e.g., between trips), you don't need to empty the agitator as long as the substrate is still good. If it's no longer in use, it doesn't need to be stirred in between. However, it's IMPORTANT that you leave the lid open during these periods of inactivity to ensure continued ventilation. Otherwise, mold or condensation could form. Remember, air and light prevent mold!

  • Is the mixer dangerous for my child?

The HELIPOTT E-Drive is designed so that the agitator only operates when the lid is closed. This is monitored by an integrated, dual-protection sensor system. Nevertheless, it is not a toy, and small children should not use it or play with it unsupervised. Technology is always fascinating to young children, so please supervise. With the HELIPOTT Easy, parents should be vigilant and ensure that no child interferes with the agitator, especially if other children are using the crank. Always remember your duty of supervision with small children!

  • Adjusting the hinges of the lid and divider

Helipott toilets feature adjustable hinges for both the lid and the divider. The lid and divider should be adjusted so they don't close on their own. After extended use, readjustment may be necessary. To do this, loosen the lock nut (cap nut), then carefully tighten the hex screw a little more. Then, tighten the lock nut securely again.
